01 — Definition

What this is

Advertising on Meta — Facebook and Instagram — and on LinkedIn, managed as one discipline rather than billed as two.

It is the opposite of paid search in one important way. In search, somebody has already decided they want something and typed it in. In social, nobody was looking for you; you are interrupting, which means the creative and the audience carry the weight that the keyword carries in search.

These two are the platforms we operate. Not TikTok, not X, not Pinterest, not Reddit, not YouTube as a standalone buy. If you need those, we're not the agency for it and would rather say so on the page than in month two.

02

Problem

02 — Problem

The problem this usually solves

The posts you boosted got likes. Nobody filled in the form. Boosting optimises for the reaction, because that is what the button was built to buy.

LinkedIn works, technically, but the cost per click is brutal and the budget disappears before the audience has been narrowed.

The audience is set to everyone within fifty miles aged 25 to 65, which is not an audience, it's a census.

Ads are running to a homepage. The homepage is a menu, not an answer, and the visitor leaves.

Platforms

03 — Platforms

Platform by platform

Meta — Facebook and Instagram

Good for: consumer offers, local services, visual products, retargeting people who already visited your site, and building demand in categories nobody searches for yet.

Costs: relatively low cost per click, so a modest budget can still gather enough data in a month to be worth reading.

The catch: cheap clicks are not cheap customers. Meta will happily deliver traffic that never intended to buy anything, which is why conversion tracking and exclusion audiences matter more here than anywhere else.

LinkedIn

Good for: reaching a specific job title, company size or industry — the only platform where that targeting is reliable, because people maintain the data themselves for their own reasons.

Costs: substantially higher per click than Meta, commonly several dollars, sometimes far more in competitive B2B categories. Budgets that would produce useful volume on Meta produce a trickle here.

The catch: the targeting is the product, and it is also the temptation. Narrow it too far and you pay premium prices to show the same ad to the same 400 people until they resent you.

Which one is not a matter of preference. If your buyer is defined by a job title, LinkedIn. If your buyer is defined by an interest, a behaviour or a postcode, Meta. If you're not sure, that's a question worth asking before you spend, not after.

04

Scope

04 — Scope

What we actually do

Audience and exclusion setup
Who sees the ads, and just as importantly who stops seeing them: existing customers, current enquiries, people who already converted, staff.
Campaign structure and budget pacing
Arranged so results are attributable to something.
Creative concepts and ad copy
We write the copy, and we specify and direct the visual concept. Production limits, stated plainly: we don't shoot video, run photography or produce animation. We work with the assets you have, direct what's needed, or brief a producer you appoint.
Conversion tracking
Verified before spend starts.
The landing destination
What the click arrives at, and whether it matches the promise the ad made.
Ongoing iteration
Pausing what isn't working, rebuilding what nearly is, and refreshing creative before fatigue sets in rather than after the numbers say it has.

05

Excluded

05 — Excluded

What is not included

  • The ad spend. Meta and LinkedIn bill you directly, at cost.
  • Video production, photography, illustration and animation.
  • Brand and creative direction as a standalone engagement.
  • Organic social management — posting, scheduling, captions, growing a following.
  • Community management, comment moderation and inbox replies. Note that ads generate comments, and somebody on your side needs to be reading them.
  • Influencer and creator partnerships.
  • TikTok, X, Pinterest, Reddit, Snapchat, and YouTube as a standalone buy.
  • Website or landing page development.

Receive

06 — Receive

What you receive

Campaigns built and documented so you can see what's running and why. Audience and exclusion lists maintained rather than set once. Ad copy and creative concepts, iterated on a schedule instead of when something breaks. Conversion tracking verified.

A written report covering spend, reach, clicks, cost per click, conversions, cost per conversion, which creative and audience produced them, and what changes next. Written reporting is included in the retainer and is not billed separately. What the report contains is specified in full on the analytics page, and the cadence is agreed in writing before work starts.

08 — Questions

Questions people ask before signing

Which platform should a B2B business use?

LinkedIn if the buyer is identifiable by job title, company size or industry, and if you can absorb clicks costing several times what they'd cost on Meta. Meta if the buyer is identifiable by behaviour or interest, or if you want retargeting at a sane price. Plenty of B2B businesses run Meta retargeting alongside LinkedIn prospecting, which is usually the cheaper way to reach the same person twice.

Do you produce the creative?

We write the ad copy and direct the concept. We don't shoot video, take photographs or produce animation. In practice that means we work with assets you already have, tell you specifically what's missing, or brief a producer you appoint. If your whole campaign depends on new video being made, factor that cost in separately — it isn't in our fee.

Can I run both platforms?

Yes. $980 a month for the first, $450 for the second, plus a $1,450 build for each. Running both generally makes sense once each has enough budget to gather data on its own; splitting one small budget across two platforms usually produces two accounts that can't learn anything.

Is the ad spend billed to me?

Yes, by Meta or LinkedIn, directly, at cost, on your own payment method. It never passes through us and we take no percentage of it.
